To protect pets (especially cats) from falling out of windows, a few simple yet reliable solutions are sufficient.
The main method is installing an “anti‑cat” mesh. Unlike regular mosquito nets, it:
is made of durable materials (steel, aluminium, or reinforced polymer);
can withstand loads up to 20 kg;
has reinforced fasteners (at least 6 points around the perimeter);
features small cells (2.5 × 2.5 cm is optimal).
An alternative is a side restrictor made of metal. It is secured with screws and prevents the sash from opening wide, while still allowing for ventilation.
You can also use special child‑safety restrictors, but with caveats:
install them above the window handle;
leave a gap no wider than 3–4 cm (smaller than the distance from the pet’s chin to forehead);
use them only as an additional measure — on their own, they are not fully reliable.
Key recommendations:
Do not rely on regular mosquito nets — pets can easily damage them.
Regularly check the condition of protective devices and fasteners.
Remove items that attract pets’ attention (plants, toys) from near windows.
When away for extended periods, lock windows or activate blockers.
A combined approach — a reliable mesh plus a mechanical restrictor — will provide maximum safety for your pet.
