PVC windows can serve for decades — but only with proper care. A few simple steps will help maintain their airtightness, smooth operation, and attractive appearance.
Regular cleaning is the foundation of care. Wipe profiles and glass with a soft cloth and a neutral detergent (avoid abrasives and solvents). Steer clear of stiff brushes — they can scratch the surface. For seals, a soapy solution is ideal: it won’t damage the rubber.
Lubricating the seals preserves their elasticity. Once a year, apply a special silicone compound or glycerin to the rubber strips. This prevents drying and cracking, maintaining airtightness.
Caring for the hardware ensures smooth operation. Twice a year, lubricate moving parts (hinges, locking mechanisms) with machine oil or special window lubricant. Remove dust and dirt from grooves — they can hinder mechanism performance.
Checking drainage holes is essential for moisture management. These are located at the bottom of the frame: periodically clear them with a thin wire or toothpick to prevent water from accumulating inside the profile.
Protecting against mechanical damage is a simple way to avoid repairs. Don’t hang heavy items on the sashes, and avoid leaving them open in strong winds. When cleaning, be careful not to bump hard objects against the profile.
By following these rules, you’ll preserve your windows’ functionality for many years — without drafts, condensation, or unnecessary repair costs.
