Behind the familiar white frame lies a sophisticated engineering system. Let’s explore the key components of a modern PVC window and why each one matters.
The profile is the window’s structural frame. Its multi‑chamber design (typically 3–5 chambers) ensures rigidity and thermal insulation. Inside the profile is a steel reinforcing insert that prevents deformation due to temperature fluctuations. The profile width (starting from 60 mm) directly affects energy efficiency.
The insulating glass unit is the «transparent wall» between you and the outdoors. It consists of 2–3 panes with air or gas gaps (argon enhances heat retention). Special coatings (Low‑E, multifunctional) reflect excess heat in summer and keep warmth inside in winter. The unit’s airtightness is ensured by a spacer bar and a double‑seal gasket.
Hardware are the window’s «muscles» responsible for opening. Hinges, locks, cams, and strike plates work together to ensure a tight seal of the sash. High‑quality hardware (Roto, Siegenia, etc.) lasts 10–15 years and protects against drafts.
Seals are the invisible guardians of comfort. Elastic rubber or EPDM gaskets around the sash perimeter eliminate drafts and noise. Their condition is critical: even micro‑cracks lead to heat loss.
Drainage channels in the lower part of the profile discreetly direct condensate and rainwater outside, preventing moisture build‑up inside the chambers.
The glazing bead is a narrow plastic profile that secures the insulating glass unit in the frame. Its airtightness affects the overall air permeability of the structure.
Decorative elements (lamination, mullions) not only enhance appearance but also add rigidity: inter‑glass bars, for example, act as additional stiffening ribs.
All these components work as a single mechanism: the profile maintains shape, the glass unit provides insulation, hardware controls movement, and seals ensure airtightness. It is the balance of these parts that makes the window quiet, warm, and durable. When choosing, pay attention not to individual details but to their harmonious «teamwork».
