Secrets of PVC Profile: What’s Hidden Inside Window Frame

At first glance, a PVC profile looks like a simple frame, but it has a carefully designed inner structure that makes the window warm, quiet, and durable. The key feature is its multi‑chamber design: the isolated air pockets work like a thermos, reducing heat loss and dampening street noise. The more chambers there are (typically from 3 to 6), the better the profile’s insulation properties.

Inside the chambers, there’s almost always steel reinforcement — a closed or U‑shaped contour made of galvanised steel. It gives the frame rigidity, prevents it from deforming under load, and helps it withstand wind forces. Without it, even high‑quality plastic could gradually warp due to temperature fluctuations and pressure changes.

The profile walls have varying thicknesses: the outer ones are more robust to withstand weather conditions, while the inner ones are optimised for attaching hardware and holding seals in place. The special geometry of the grooves securely fixes the sealing contours and glazing beads, preventing drafts and glass unit displacement.

The profile’s surface is coated with a modified layer that’s resistant to UV radiation and precipitation — this keeps the colour and smoothness intact for years. The material also contains stabilisers and additives that enhance durability and resistance to temperature swings.
