How to Prepare a Room for PVC Window Installation

Installing PVC windows is a noisy and dusty job: removing old frames, using a hammer drill, and dealing with crumbling plaster. To keep the renovation from turning into a trial, the room should be prepared in advance.

Start by clearing the space around the window: move furniture at least 1.5–2 metres away. This gives the installers room to work and keeps sofas and cabinets safe. Clear the windowsill of pots, figurines, and appliances — these small items are easy to damage or accidentally knock off during installation. Remove curtains, tulle, and blinds: fabric quickly absorbs dust and might get caught on tools.

Protect the floor near the opening by laying thick cardboard, then covering it with plastic sheeting; seal the joints with masking tape. This will safeguard the flooring from scratches and heavy fragments of old masonry. Furniture that can’t be moved should be covered with film  or thick covers: fine construction dust gets everywhere and settles on upholstery and glossy surfaces.

It’s also important to plan the route for bringing in the new unit: the corridor and doorways should be clear of boxes, bicycles, and shoes. It’s a good idea to protect corners with extra cardboard — large frames can easily bump against walls when being manoeuvred.

Don’t forget about safety: keep pets and children away from the work area. If there’s any electronics in the room, it’s best to unplug and cover them — dust can damage equipment. This preparation doesn’t take much time, but it saves a lot of stress, protects belongings and the finishing  and lets the professionals focus on what matters most: ensuring the new windows will serve reliably for years to come.
