Types of PVC Window Opening Mechanisms

When choosing plastic windows, it’s important to consider not only the profile and glazing but also the way the sashes open — this determines usability and functionality. Let’s review the main options.

1. Pivoting mechanism
   The sash rotates around vertical hinges — a classic solution everyone knows. It opens inward or outward and is convenient for cleaning.
2. Tilt mechanism
   The sash tilts at the top thanks to horizontal hinges. Ideal for ventilation: cool air enters gently, avoiding room overcooling. Especially suitable for children’s rooms — safer than the pivoting type.
3. Tilt‑and‑turn mechanism
   A universal hybrid: with a single handle turn, you can choose either full swing or tilt mode. Allows micro‑ventilation, which is especially valuable in winter.
4. Sliding mechanism
   Sashes slide along tracks parallel to the frame. Essential for balconies and loggias: it doesn’t take up space when opening. Downside: slightly lower thermal insulation compared to pivoting systems.
5. Fixed (non‑opening) window
   Has no moving parts. The most budget‑friendly option, suitable for technical rooms or large panoramic openings where opening is not required. Drawback: difficult exterior cleaning.
6. Folding system («accordion»)
   Several sashes that fold like an accordion. Optimal for wide openings: saves space and allows adjusting the opening width.
