PVC windows are built to last, but like any equipment, they need a little care. Here are five simple rules to keep them functional and looking good.
1. Clean the gaskets. The rubber seals around the sash keep the window airtight. Wipe them with a soft cloth every six months and apply silicone lubricant — this keeps them flexible longer.
2. Lubricate the hardware. Hinges, cam pins, and opening mechanisms benefit from lubrication. Use a dedicated window hardware lubricant or universal silicone grease. Twice a year is enough.
3. Check the seal pressure. You can adjust how tightly the sash fits. If you feel drafts or notice condensation around the edges, it might be time to switch the window to “winter” or “summer” mode using the adjustment eccentrics.
4. Keep drainage holes clear. There are small holes at the bottom of the frame to drain condensation. They can get clogged with dust and debris — check and clean them once a year.
5. Wash the profile and glass. PVC is fine with water and mild detergents, but avoid abrasives and harsh solvents — they scratch the surface and damage the finish.
By following these simple steps, you’ll extend the life of your windows and preserve their appearance. If you’re unsure how to adjust something, it’s better to call a professional: they’ll quickly check all the components and give you tailored advice.
