Windows Without Danger: How to Make PVC Windows Safe for Pets

Pets often take a keen interest in windows — they love watching the street, basking on the windowsill, or even trying to get outside. To keep your pets safe and preserve your windows intact, a few thoughtful measures will do the trick.

Start with a sturdy mosquito screen. A regular screen won’t withstand the pressure of a cat or dog — opt for reinforced options made of stainless steel or with reinforced fibres. These models are scratch‑resistant and won’t tear when your pet jumps against them. Be sure to check the mounting reliability: the screen must be firmly fixed along the entire perimeter of the window.

Limit how far the sashes can open. Use special lock mechanisms or restrictors with a locking function: they let you crack the window open just enough for ventilation (5–10 cm), but not wide enough for a pet to squeeze through. For maximum control, choose lockable mechanisms — they can’t be accidentally moved.

Pay attention to the windowsill placement. If it’s wide and comfortable, your pet will spend a lot of time there. Remove any fragile items from the windowsill that could fall and injure your pet. If possible, place a pet bed or cushion nearby — this will make the resting area safer and more comfortable.

Avoid low windowsills near panoramic windows. If you have a dog, especially a large one, the risk of accidental bumps or fright increases. In such cases, consider adding visual barriers — for example, low decorative panels along the lower part of the glass.

Finally, gradually teach your pet the rules. Show them safe spots for watching the outside world and reward calm behaviour near the window. Observe your pet’s reactions: if they show excessive interest in the street or try to squeeze through the screen, it’s a sign you need to strengthen the protection.

Simple safety precautions will help create a secure environment — so you can feel at ease about your furry friend, and your windows will last longer.
