How to Decorate PVC Arched Windows with Textiles

An arched window is already an architectural accent in itself, but the right textiles reveal its full potential, adding warmth and stylistic completeness. The task is more complex than with rectangular openings, yet it also offers greater creative scope.

The key rule: the decor should not «overpower» the arch’s graceful shape. It’s best to avoid massive lambrequins with heavy drapery — they visually weigh down the curve. Lightweight, flowing fabrics (voile, chiffon, fine linen) are optimal: they follow the contour without hiding it.

One elegant technique is asymmetrical tie‑backs. By securing the fabric on one side, you create soft folds that emphasise the opening’s curvature. For a symmetrical look, circular tie‑backs on the sides work well: they hold the fabric in place while keeping the arch visible.

If you prefer more opacity, choose curtains with eyelets or loops mounted on a curved rod. Such a rod follows the arch’s radius, ensuring a perfect fit. For the top edge, subtle ruffles or a trim matching the frame colour can accentuate the shape without overloading it.

When selecting colour and pattern, consider the radius: large prints on steep arches become distorted, affecting visual perception. Monochrome schemes, small checks, or vertical stripes work better — they visually elongate the opening. Pastel and neutral shades expand the space, while deep tones (emerald, sapphire) lend an air of aristocratic restraint.

For functional zoning, Roman shades tailored to the arch’s shape are a good choice. They fit snugly, control light, and don’t hinder sash operation. An alternative is combining tulle with short side curtains: lightness during the day, privacy in the evening.

Important: before sewing, take precise measurements along the arc, including the highest point and side supports. It’s better to order custom tailoring using an individual template — this ensures the fabric will drape perfectly, turning the window into a living painting.
