The seal is externally invisible and occupies a small area of the window design element. Tightness of the window is provided thanks to it. Recently, scientists from the United States was presented to the public self-healing plastic for the production of this important part.
One of the largest American petrochemical enterprises for the production of polymers Lyondell Basell received recognition in the category "Innovative material" in connection with the invention of a new self-healing thermoplastic polymer. This material, heating changes its state from solid to viscous. This material is made using different types of plastic and can be used in a variety of areas.
The new material can be used for the production of window seals and various types of glazing. Being cut into pieces of the desired size, such a seal is fixed on the frame or glass by ordinary pressing, there is no need for glue or a special tool. Also, no surface pretreatment is required. When cutting, the material melts, which allows you to connect it to the surface before it cools down and returns to its original properties.
At the moment, the best are silicone and rubber seals, as they do not change their properties with a sharp change in temperature. The properties of the new material in this respect have not yet been sufficiently investigated.
