Researchers from Italy presented a new 3D printer that reproduces glass material by the method of continuous printing. Employees of the University in Milan invented a printer that prints glass materials for construction works of glass. For operation of robot manipulator fiberglass combined with resin from the photopolymer is used. Compound applies to the surface and exposed to UV radiation. Thus obtained glass does not need cooling, unlike glass produced by the usual way.
Scientists say that the basis of the new device is the same principle that uses a spider weaving a web. While the equipment is undergoing production tests, scientists are thinking of using it for production of building materials based on organic compounds.
Developers plan reproduction of building elements of any size. This is the first printer able to reproduce glass parts for construction. Two years earlier, American scientists have submitted a printer for printing glass, however, it found its use for the manufacture of laboratory equipment due to the fact that only considerably small sizes of components are possible.
It is expected that in the coming decades, the three-dimensional printing process will be used in the window industry that will significantly speed up the process of production of plastic windows
