Self-healing glass - the latest development

Not only plastic is going to become almost eternal material. It is time for the presentation of the eternal glass which is able to recover after impact. It seems impossible borrowing from sci-Fi movies but scientists suggest us developments of a self-healing glass.

The first studies in this direction were carried out by LG in 2013 and as a result of four years of work, we can see the material that can heal itself during one day.

The invention is based on the principle of dipole attraction of molecules. New glass is made so that in case of failure disconnected elements will be capable of merging back into whole structure. The new glass is composed of polymers and ionic salt, has the properties of flexibility and transparency and that's why now may be the best material for the production of items that often fall down. This glass has a perfect conductivity and this property is responsible for the reunification of the ions.

Despite the latest technology used in production, glass is not expensive, it can withstand severe stress and repairs itself during the day under normal temperature.

Most likely, pretty soon we will know whether eternal plastic and glass can be used in such big structures like windows. Perhaps we will witness window glass damaged by impact, will be recovered right before our eyes.
