Ways to visually enlarge small windows.

In old buildings you can often find non-standard windows, they are sometimes too big, but more often the viceversa. The owners of apartments in old buildings often have to deal with too small window openings. In this regard, the question arises: how to increase  visually the size of the window.

The best method to do this is to choose properly the window decorations. For window to look bigger, you can use some simple techniques that can correct design flaws, and also will positively affect the appearance of the whole interior.

First, for the decoration of small window openings you should prefer traditional options in the form of curtains or drapes. Increased attention should be paid to the choice of fabric. It is better to choose a transparent and light materials such as muslin or organza. Do not forget to adhere to the style of the main interior.

A window will seem wider when you use a patterned fabric. A pattern of narrow horizontal stripes can create the illusion of optical extension of the narrow window.

Of course, the smaller the window the less light transmission. It will also have an impact on the perception of its size. Placing the mirror in front of small window you get the effect of more space.

For window to look bigger than it actually is, remember the correct installing of window decorations. Curtains should be installed as high as possible and away from the window frame. Adding such installation to the curtains in horizontal stripes, you will optically expand not only the window but also the room itself.
